Blue Ridge Parkway in middle of March?

I understand all the campgrounds, concessions, etc. are closed, but is the parkway itself open? Anyone done it then?

Much of it is still closed in early April. I've been thwarted many times in March when driving it in sportscars. The snow is still on the ground.

It looks like they don't plow it all when it snows. If it's been a very warm winter then March might be okay, but you'd absolutely positively have to have a plan B. Without services it would be a very hard bike ride. There is enough up and down without doing the up and down off the ridge at the beginning and end of the day.

I was there in April. Much of it was closed. The snow was gone, but a lot of tree limbs had fallen over the winter, and cleanup was still underway.

Totally possible to have it closed completely due to snow in March and even April. They don't plow, as has been noted. I've XC-skied down the middle of the closed Parkway in March, for example. It's really nice when it's closed to cars!

I think I'll re-schedule for May 14, when the campgrounds open. Thanks!
