Fenders - specifically trailer fenders - metal or plastic?

For those who have trailers, does the composition of the fender make any difference to you? Theoretically, plastic is quieter and lighter. Metal might be more durable in the long run - it can be bent back into shape if needed/damaged. You can also mount things directly onto metal fenders while doing so with plastic ones might raise issues.

Then again, a trailer fender, especially with a single wheeled trailer, is so far behind the bike, does it really make any difference at all?

When I was deciding on fenders for my two-wheel trailer, I opted for metal ones. Like you state, you can put things directly onto them if necessary, so if I need to put tent/sleeping bag on top of my load, I do not have to worry about pushing the fender down onto the tire. Durability was less of a consideration, but it seems like it would be better with metal. Only time and a LOT of miles will tell.
