Anyone here had to sleep rough while credit card touring?

I just wonder because a couple of times, my friend and I have got the last room in (admittedly very small) towns. It's usually been late and we've just scraped in. We've always joked about having to sleep on the park bench or in a bus shelter, not having any camping gear or sleeping bags, but never done it.
Anyone here got caught out?

Yes, and it was no fun!
There were four of us, credit card touring in Southern France. Late May. Arrived at Cassis mid-day, and no hotel rooms. Continued on to dark, got to Toulon, which is not a tourist town anyways. No hotel rooms. Locals told us it was just going to get worse as we went East, because Cannes Film Festival was starting next day, and Cannes was 100k or so further East. We decided we'd better just take the train to Nice and bike around there for a while, then bike back towards Cannes and St Tropez etc. Problem was, next train wasn't until next morning.
So we decided to just spend the night in the Toulon train station. Good plan until 11:30 PM when they kicked us out because they were locking up the station until 5 the next morning. Had no choice, we took our gear to the steps and just hung out on the steps of the train staton all night. Luckily it was late spring along the Mediterranean Sea, and there was a bank flashing time and temperature across from us, so it was fairly warm and we could watch the minutes draaaggg by all ngiht.
Caught a little sleep, but it was along a pretty busy downtown street...traffic all night. People walking by all night. Nobody hassled us though.
The next time I went back to France to go credit card touring, I brought along a bivvy sack and light weight sleeping bag, just in case. Never had to use it though the second time. And since then, I've never gone cc touring, have stayed in campgrounds and hostels.
