Levers and shifter for butterfly bars
I'm considering swapping out my drop bars for a trekking/butterfly bar and have a couple questions.
I know the shifters/brake levers, which are Tiagra STI, won't work with the butterfly bars without doing some jury rigging. Would it be better to clamp on some down tube shifters or use mtb shifters?
Also, when I get new brake levers, Do I need to look for ones specifically for cantilever brakes, or will any mountain bike mechanical lever work?
Thanks!!!

Try either grip shifters or trigger. A far as levers, mtb should work. If you are going to use a mirror, look at the Zefal "SPY" or the Ultralight that either REI or Ortlieb carry.

MTB levers are unlikely to work. You need levers specifically designed for cantilever/caliper brakes, not V-brakes.

Mountain bike levers will work, as long as they are for canti and not v-brakes. I have a commuter bike set up with butterfly bars and was able to move the Alivio (sure low end, it was what was on the bike) brake/shifter pods right over. Grip shift, rapid fire plus or thumb shifters will all work.
You might also run into a problem with the front derailleur -- the road and mountain shifters have different pulls. No such issue for the rear though.
