Well, actually, I try to have some extra room in my luggage for carrying extra food to campgrounds or whatever. The rear pans usually are only about half packed.

Godspeed. Are you gonna keep a travelogue?

I should but i dont like to write and i dont realy want to lose time in cyber-café to update the journal. I'll see on the road if i take the time to do it. At worst the journal will only contain pictures.

i went in many cyber-café in quebec and they cost up to 15$ per hour ... and 15$ is my dally budget for the whole tour

I have 3 journals on crasyguyonabike , only one that is published. ( the 2 not yet published are the C2C and a tour i was supposed to do last week )

My stumpjumper conversion will be finished this Thursday, except for the racks which are causing me some grief.... but I'll get some pics of her up on Thursday in the "almost ready to tour" form...
D

I am leaning toward using my Specialized Hard Rock for the road, as is it is my town bike.
I have a luggage rack and a 4000000lb Schwinn Trailer.
If any body feels like yaking about MTB conversions I will listen, thank you, and thank you all for the great writs and pics.

Is that a bottle holder on your front rack?

I'm getting ready for my first tour, about 1200km planned, ((in Finland)from Vaasa to Turku, around the Turku archipelago and back).

Cheap crappy hybrid that got a good looking over and some cheap racks and bags. Might not be good but it will have to to for this short tour.

I don't know if that such a short tour, 1200km, it depends what you compare to. In my eyes it is a pretty long tour :-)

Good luck

115 pounds up and down the alps. Laptop, back up hard drive, Nikon DSLR, 3,900 photos in RAW format.

Of course, if you want to see expedition loaded touring bike photos, you've got to see Fully Loaded Touring Bike Photo Gallery High quality images from around the world and links from the people that own the bikes. Over 80 images at the time of this posting. My return gift to the touring world.

Cheers,

And here is my wife's T2000 with Jandd panniers:

Can you tell there's a slight size disparity between the two of us?

kickpleat 07-15-06 04:15 PM

just came back from a 6 day camping trip around vancouver island and the sunshine coast. here are our loaded bikes.

This is my husband & his loaded down old Nishiki road bike resting on Qualicum Beach. He's building a LHT but he's not finished with it yet. Note the Spongy Wonder seat! He is a firm believer in light touring and really liked having front panniers with the tent, thermarest & sleeping bag on the back rack. We've got our towels drying over our bags on the back rack.

Here I am with my Trek 520. Just 2 rear panniers and my sleeping bag and big agnes sleep pad on the back rack.

I live in Switzerland and the cycling here is great! I just got back from a six day tour along the #9 "Seen-Route" or "Lakes Route". Just spectacular! I'm curious where you rode for 27 days. Did you happen to pass through St. Gallen?

cheers,
chris
