Here's my partially loaded rig. I usually train with the small panniers on, and added the handlebar bag today for convenience. This shot is on the Hermosa Beach Pier in Southern California.

This rig isn't loaded, but I thought you folks might find it interesting. This bike caught my eye, and I stopped to admire it and talk to the owner for a bit. His name is Barry, and he just built this bike about three months ago. It's a Bike Nashbar frame built up with some decent components, including Bullseye hubs. One of the things that caught my eye was the "name" of the bike on the downtube: Frame. He said that the frame came without any identifying decals, so he applied all these himself.

If you can't travel fast and you can't post the big numbers in daily miles, at least you can LOOK like you can!

Wow, thanks for posting that scene. My grandparents lived in Hermosa Beach for a long time, that brings back memories. We visited them regularly there when I was growing up (a drive of approx. 2000 miles ). I haven't been there since 1976. The last day I was there was the day after Thanksgiving in '76, we swam in the ocean and then started home. We hit a snowstorm in Arizona and it snowed most of the way home as we headed east. A very memorable trip-

Edit: actually, I have been back more recently. I forgot that my wife and I traveled overseas a few years ago and had a layover of one night in LA on the way home. We went for a long walk (we really had no idea where we were exactly, we just wanted to see the ocean), and lo and behold, there was a Hermosa Beach city limits sign. We kept on walking toward the ocean, and ended up on the pier. I remember it being such a LONG walk, and we were so jet-lagged, we took a cab back to the motel!

Sorry to ramble, but wow, Hermosa Beach does bring back memories for me-

G'day

Here is a photo of my now sold off-road tourer, a Giant Boulder SE mountain bike.

It has been replaced by a Giant XTC 2 mountain bike and BOB trailer.

Miyata 618

This is my Miyata 618. We were on Highway 32 in Down East Maine. The dry bag carries my tent. The Barbie is the maiden head who turns heads.
I Love this bike. I'm in the process of building up another Miyata, this one a One Thousand.

This is from my tour this past summer from Jacksonville FL to San Francisco. Took me and my buddies just under 2 months, a total of 4,500 miles. We stayed in 1 hotel the entire time, and never once had to paid for where we slept.
This is my friend's bike when we were in Nevada:

This is my bike somewhere in Colorado, which was the first frame I ever built:

This is us crossing Nevada by night under the moon:

Man, I want to do this again.
