Here are some pics of my trusty old '94 Trek 730 on the C&O canal towpath this summer. Not the ultimate tourer, but a fantastic commuter, grocery-getter and general-purpose ride. I'm about to take the plunge on a LHT if it would stop raining long enough for me to take a test ride on it!
The saddle appears to be tilited up too far because my seatpost splines stripped during this trip. I was unable to get the saddle to stay in any other position, so I had to get a new post. |

This is an unloaded picture of my new LHT. I live on the entrance to the Joshua tree National park and have started training with this heavy beast!!! This shot is from the Keys view over look. 40 miles round trip and 2500 feet of gain from my house. It's not a great picture.... the view is really spectacular. I love love love riding in the park.. been doing it for years and I never tire of her |

40 miles. Is that the loop over to JT & back on the hwy? I used to really enjoy blasting back down the hill to the main entrance (this was in the day when it was only JT National Monument).

Somewhat loaded at destination:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1399495/surly/loaded.jpg Single day solo tour from Shelby Twp., MI to Ipperwash Beach, ON. Hot as the devil, but it was fun and I learned a lot about touring alone. The route was roughly 98 miles through mostly semi-rural (and flat) MI and ON. I met a family member at the campsite and drove back the next day. I felt like I could have ridden home, but the heat was worse than the day before so it wasn't worth the risk. On the rack I had the Ortlieb panniers and a trunk with a tripod strapped to it. The front is a modified camera bag. |

Hey Roger, That's the route from my home on Quail Springs rd to Keys and back. Yeah I'm afraid I am old enough to still call this palce a monument too. Most of the roads have been re-done several times in the last twenty years. The road from Cap rock to Keys view is brand spank'n new. really sweet.
Thanks. ~R |

Good day - this'll be my first post, and this here seems a good place to put it. Here is my bike, surrounded by the morning sprawl, on the second day of an 5 day tour in my home state. Picture is taken in Wyoming, Minnesota.
Since it's hard to see, I'll just go ahead and admit those are some $36 nashbar panniers in the front. They get the job done, but they are a bit cramped and likely to be replaced next year. http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/v...4/DSCN1164.jpg |
