Here is my 98 Cannondale M300 loaded on our trip around Lake Konstance from Germany, through Switzerland, Austria, then home. About 1/4 of the gear on the bike wasn't mine, one of the guys that went with me didn't have enough racks for his gear so he was already wearing a backpack. But the tarps came in handy as we anticipated a lot of rain later in the day, it poured all night, and we had set the tarps up between all of our tents and partied all night long.

Not my "rig", but this is one of the guys that's doing a tour with me on the GAP and C&O Towpath. he's been riding this rig to work for the past two weeks to "shakedown" the packs. It's a 1984 Ross Mount St. Helens. Almost completely original except for the tires and rear brake.

Going from Urumqi to Kuerleshi, not via the highway. Lovely route, but a tough ride. Urumqi is about 1000 m, and I climbed for three days to get to 4025 m, then down. Roads were ok, to rough, to very rough, to bolt shaking loose rough.

Heading out tomorrow for a 3 day fun trip. Just a shakedown of the new bike, and a getaway before school starts. The "panniers" are just USGI buttpacks, held on with zipties. The black bag holds my sleeping matt and a REI Flash 18 pack containing food and my sleeping bag. It's not as light a load as I'd like, but it's still not too bad. I could shave some weight by leaving my water filter, first aid kit, poncho, cold weather gear, alcohol stove/fuel, and some other misc stuff, but I kind of want a little comfort this trip.

I did a little shakedown tour on the KATY Trail from Jefferson City to St. Charles prior to a Route 66 trip up to Chicago. I even managed to make it all the way back in a day. First century ride for me!
