Your Favourite Tour of 2010
What was your favourite tour of 2010? Which one did you like the best, and why?
Rowan and I did several hub-and-spoke tours this year where we headquartered in one spot and cycled off in different directions while we were there.
30 Jan - 2 Feb: Port Fairy - beautiful beaches and ocean views

Easter: Chiltern - nice area to cycle along the Murray and near the mountains, but Machak was stolen here
https://www.flickr.com/photos/1430288...7623759790260/
Queen's Birthday in June: Creswick - this was a randonneuring weekend with a set of permanents and a group of cyclists, lots of fun!

Mid-September: Toora - just had to get away someplace a little bit warmer for a few days toward the end of a long, cool winter

Mid-October: Shepparton - Rowan was getting his heavy rigid trucking licence, so we made a long weekend of it and cycled all over the area.

Of them all, I think my favorite was the Port Fairy Tour ... I love the scenery in that area, and the beaches! We hadn't gone anywhere over Christmas, and so that trip was kind of like our Christmas break. It was made even better by the fact that all the kids had gone back to school and we had a touristy area to ourselves.

My favourite tour was across Spain in November. It was only for two weeks, but I've only really toured in summer before so it made a nice change of scenery to tour in late autumn. Spain was a challenging country to cycle, it's pretty hilly and the climate changed from warm and sunny along the coast to cold and wintery further inland, but the roads were quiet, which is always nice. The journal is here for anyone interested https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/spain2010

I only took two tours. The best was from Portland, Oregon to Missoula, Montana on the Lewis and Clark trail.

Favorite tour 2010 ...
We only made one tour last year. We rode across our own US state of Ohio - from South to North (Ohio River to Lake Erie).

I from from Charleston, SC to Bar Harbor, ME and then down to Boston in two stages, mostly following the ACA Atlantic Coast trail. The first stage was from Charleston, SC to Lambertville, NJ and the second one went from the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania to Maine and Boston.
Without question, the better of the two was the second part. It helped that I rode it in the autumn when the fall colors were emerging. Also, New England has lots of different terrains where further south is mostly flat.

Seattle to Rapid City, SD(mostly Lewis and Clark)in late summer is the finest ride I've done in terms of scenery. Nothing can ever top my first long tour in overall impact, but this came real close. https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?...c_id=7472&v=Eo

My favorite tour this year was a short one (3 days) going from Tulsa to Lake Eufaula and back. The last day was one of those days that I hope never to repeat, but was a good experience anyway, if for no other reason than it puts rain into perspective. The road I hoped to ride on (Tiger Mountain Road between I-40 and Hoffman, OK just in case anyone is interested) turned out to be in a swamp and mostly underwater, so I alternately carried and walked my bike for about three or four miles. I rode into Hoffman covered in mud and smelling like the swamp, and had to ask to confirm where I was. I would love to have pictures of me and my buddies carrying our bikes through knee-deep swamp water, but no one really wanted to risk dropping a camera in the muck.

Wow, some great looking tours, there.
I only did one - Munich down to the Bodensee Koenigsee radweg, then up to Chiemsee, down to Berchtesgaden and then on to Salzburg. Then we caught the train back to Munich for the Oktoberfest.
We did it the wrong way round really, and had all our hard days at the start. But it was still a great little tour.

Easy choice.
Belgium and Luxembourg, with an emphasis on the Ardennes region. Beautiful ride, lots of history, good roads, friendly people, great food along the way. Eventually finished up with a train ride to and some biking around Paris, France.

Erie Canal
we had a wonderful trip across NY state on the Erie Canal. I had my two sons on a triplet and was with my brothers in law and their kids on their tandems. The canal trail system is in great shape and there are lots of places to camp and eat along the way so you can loosely plan daily mileage and stops. Planning to circle Lake Champlain next year with same group.

France in September. With some help from French rail system, we went from Normandy all the way down to Languedoc and up to Provence. New bikes and too much luggage, made it hard some days, but the wonderful pastries made up for that

I did two weeks in central and eastern Costa Rica in January. That was nothing short of amazing.
At the end of August and beginning of September, I did a one-week trip in British Columbia from the Okanagan Valley to the West Kootenay.

I went on just one tour in 2010 and had a great time. In early summer I cycled from the Lake of Constance to Hamburg via Salzburg, Prague, and Dresden. Links below if anyone is interested.
