Just to give you guys some frame of reference, my steel MTB with cheap suspension fork, steel rack, plastic fenders and lights weighs in at 39 pounds. I could get it down close to 35 with a new fork and aluminum rack, I think.

motobecane Ti hardtail with tubus rear and suspension racks brooks saddle = 32lbs.
I thought that was high but as a friend pointed out I have hydraulic brakes and suspension so that's not too bad. I think the bike stock was 24lbs so about 8lbs to get it comfy and racks. It's the rider weight that's the problem seems like almost everyone I've asked is in the 32 to 35 range with steel racks and lights fenders ect.

Last I weighed mine, it was almost exactly 30 lbs. Maybe 29.8 or something. This was before I got the bar bag's connecting bracket and the front low-rider, but I doubt those add more than a pound or two.

The bike's a steel framed Jamis Aurora. Had a steel rack at the time, have since gone aluminum (because the new rack has a rear support strut...not to try to shave ounces). Has fenders (SKS Commuters) and a couple of small PB lights. Wheels are Alex Ace19 rims with Vittoria Randonneur tires.

I'm trying to wrap my head around 42 lbs of bike, that seems like a lot. Did you have a u-lock attached or anything?

Maybe I'll pop for a titanium rail one...
I just sold my Brooks B17 narrow to buy a Brook Flyer. I know it's a little heavier at under two lb, but why spend so much for titanium when I can just shed a lb off my love handles? Besides, speed is overrated. Comfort is worth more, to be at least.

My friend bought one, so I'm waiting to see how he likes his, as he also comes from a racing saddle background.
have you thought about the B17 narrow? I think it's a little lighter.

My Marinoni Turismo Extreme with front and rear racks, aero bars, fenders and 2 water bottle holders is 32.3 lbs. Marinonis' sizing is strange, but it is about a 56cm frame. Disc brakes, Columbus Zona tubing, she rides like a dream.
