Cannondale T500

54 cm (technically, 53.8 cm) Cannondale Touring Bike. This is an awesome bike for touring, commuting, or cruising around.

Model: T500, CAD2 Aluminum frame. (MADE IN THE USA!)
Features: This is a classic touring bike with braze-ons for rear and front racks and downtube shifters (supremely durable).
Use: It has been around the block a bit, and has some cosmetic scratches, but has almost brand new, beefy 36 spoke touring wheels and a newer crankset.

Cranks: Deore MTB 3 ring
Front Der. STX
Rear Der. STX 7 speed
Pedals: Shimano SPD
Diacompe Rear Cantilever
Avid Front Cantilever
Saddle: Men's Terry Touring Saddle
Wheels are generic (I think Performance) touring-wheels. They have heavy duty rims and 36 spokes to help support a loaded bike.
Tires: Kenda 700c x 35 c cyclocross tires.

do you think this is a solid bike for $300 or do you think I can find something better for about the same price or something equal for a bit cheaper.

trying to go camping for a few day with this over summer. would be a couple hundred miles total. I have a limited budget and I still have to get all my other camping equipment. about how much will a set of racks/bags cost. also im 5'9" inseam is about 82-83cm is 54 cm a good sized bike for me

- Thanks

That is a sweet bike for the money, you won't do much better than that. It will take you werever you want to go. I ride a later version of the same bike(T-1000) and it has served me well. The bike might be small for you though. I, too am 5'9", but I ride a 58cm. It's probably 1 size too big for me , but that's the way I like it. If the bike fits you, you should jump on it. It probably won't last long.

If you can stand over this bike without the tt scratching your hangers, better jump on it right now before it's gone.

Fabulous buy but i second Cyclebum. I'm guessing it is a touch small. This model tends to run a little small as i recently learned after buying one without test riding See here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...rs.?highlight= For that money, i'd probably buy it and resell it if it doesn't fit. Great bikes!

thanks guys. a few more Q's. I was looking at panniers and for size say 30 L, is that 30L each (60L total L/R) or 30L total? and How do I know if a pannier rack will fit the bike, is it a one size fits all type thing, or will I have to go my bike shop when I buy a rack?

Volume is per pair. 15L per bag. Don't make the newbie mistake of buying the largest rear bags you can find. You end up with a tail that wags the dog. Think about getting a front lowrider rack as well as front panniers. It helps with the ride and handling of the bike.

Any rack made for 700C should fit this bike since it's made for touring racks. The only issue is the length of the connector between the top of the rack and the frame. The Cannondale is very long and needs long stays. I had to get extra length stays for my Tubus Cargo on my T800 to make them fit.

One note on the bike: I don't think it's a T500 (98 or 99) but it's a T400 (1995). The T500s didn't come in red but the T400 did. That's not a huge quibble and the bike is still worth $300.
