Suntour bar-end shifter + 8 speed cassette compatability?

Hi all,

I am attempting to set up my girlfriend's bike with some Suntour 7-speed shifters, like these:

I am running them in friction mode with an 8-speed Shimano cassette.

Any reason this shouldn't work? Any personal experiences?

Thanks!
Rory

I run an older version of the Suntour barcons friction shifting a 9-speed cassette. Plenty of pull left for more if they ever invent it. Not sure if your indexing/frictions have the same capability.
