Best online resource showing map of all campgrounds
 

Any suggestions for a good website showing a scrollable map of all campgrounds?

I've tried reserveamerica.com, campgrounds.com, allcampgrounds.com, epgsoft.com/CampgroundMap, uscampgrounds.info, etc. Some of these are pretty good, but they're missing either private, federal, or state campgrounds. Even sites that claim to have every state and federal campground are often missing some (e.g., "Shingle Creek" campground in Utah).

PS: Interestingly, when I do a forum search on "campgrounds" I get the message "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: campgrounds." It's hard to believe that the word campground is so popular as to be unsearchable...

It's aimed at tent camping.. It will lock on to your position using your phone's gps signal and show you all the camping sites around you. Literally has 13000 thousand in it's database.. It differentiates between many different types of grounds, gives you a price range, quick overview of what each campground offers, contact information, photos. Has a get directions feature which will transfer the route from your current location to your navigation tool of choice. It can also work without a satellite signal. Just enter the name of your nearest city, town.. It will bring up whatever is available. Very useful.. Way worth the two bucks, imho.

Did search with Google and a great site looks to be USCAmpgrounds.info at uscampgrounds.info. Has map which you can zoom in for any locations in US. Has listings of Corps of Engineer Parks, State Parks, City Parks, and National Parks. It may be what you need. Didn't see any access to private campgrounds, tho I myself prefer public campgrounds.

Not many state parks are added here as I'm currently focusing more on county, conservation, etc, campgrounds.

Google Maps. Just zoom in on an area and type "camground" in the search field. Moving the map repopulates the screen with new finds. It also links to their web sites and reviews if applicable.

Reserve America has maps of campgrounds. Also, if you know what states you're going too, just search for their state parks office. They will most likely have maps of their parks. Like NYS, NJ, etc. State DEP offices might have the maps too. The same goes for National Park Service.

Wow! Despite being a frequent user of Google Maps, I had no idea that functionality was there. I'm just starting to plan a short tour in a yet-to-be-visited part of my own state and I think my productivity has gone out of the window for the next hour or two. :)

Chiroptile: FYI, the "Tent & Camp" app is now $4.99 and "Tent & RV" is $5.99. Even at the price, it does seem to be the most complete list of campgrounds. I, too, contacted them about a missing campground and they were very responsive. (I went with "Tent & RV", because many of the RV "campgrounds" have tent-sites that aren't listed on Tent & Camp).

Roustabout: Yes, a Google web search will come up with many websites that list campgrounds and my original post listed several (and there are a bunch more sites I didn't list). My question was which site had all public and private.

CBike: Yeah, there are lots of state specific sites and it's good for folks to know about yours, but I was finding myself jumping from site to site. I was looking for the "one" site.

AdamDZ: Thanks, but I'm sticking with my original post. It's easy to find sites for private campgrounds, state campgrounds, national parks, etc (and I listed several). Your post is helpful for people who might not know that, but my question was which site has all of the campgrounds on a single scrollable map.

Rogerstg: That trick with Google maps is awesome. That's what I was seeking. Although much of the content is user-added, it's still very complete and helpful. My only gripe with Google maps (and it has nothing to do with this topic <blush>), is that there isn't an option for an elevation profile. I find myself designing routes in both Google Maps (great content, street-view images [to check out the shoulder on that road], and easy editing) and RideWithGPS.com (good elevation data and good route saving and loading).

That function is supplied by CueSheets that is added to your bookmarks. It automatically gives you elevation data, cue sheets, a tinyurl of your route and more. I used to use Ride with GPS but found it too buggy. You have to double check each turn in the cue sheet because it often misses some. There is also the issue of long routes being corrupted, thus wasting the time spent creating it.

Understand. My only worry with such site would be whether their information was up to date. Many state parks are subject to seasonal closings, not all parks are even opened every year. For example, NYS just closed some campgrounds for this year and some were not opened until May (to save money). For those reason I'd advocate going to the State official sites to get the latest information.
