Bikes: Had a Surly Cross Check - was totaled in recent accident. Sadly now just a Fuji Crosstown as a backup bike.

We are going to try to make it to Grand Isle. Coming back, we'll visit NOLA, but I'm more worried about the 1st leg of getting there at the moment. More than likely, we'll rent a motel and take a bus into NOLA.
Camping most of the way.
Thanks for any last minute thoughts.

That looks like a great place to ride. I hope you enjoy the trip and post details about it for the rest of us.
I've got a couple of questions for you.
1. According to the maps, this route is 330 miles or around 530 kilometres. How many days are you planning for the ride out and back? Are you going to be in hilly country in the first part of the trip? (Pardon my ignorance. I haven't seen that part of the world, although I'd like to see it and cycle there someday.)
2. I notice you're taking Highway 61 for most of the trip. How's that road for cycling and how do the motorists treat cyclists there?
Once again, have fun and keep us posted about the trip.

Actually, I have no idea. I've never been there. I'm figuring 70-80 miles a day. It is hilly in the start, flattening as you approach the ocean, I know that much for sure. From what I see on google maps, it is alot of 2 lane some no shoulder.

That sounds like a realistic distance goal. It would put the trip at five days each way. If you've got one or two extra days built in each way, you're set in case something happens to slow you down or in case you just want to spend a bit of extra time in a town, exploring the area.
