Thank you, touring forum!
I'm not a tourer, yet, but I'm dreaming about it and collecting equipment. I've been reading here for a month or so, and I've learned a lot already.
Mostly I'm posting this to say how impressed I am with how civil it is here. Even when one person gets nasty and personal everyone else stays respectful. Hooray for you (us)!

The wife and I are in the process of catching the touring bug. We have done the camping and backpacking thing--bike touring is just the next, logical step. We have started collecting stuff and making plans for building a trailer to tow behind one of our bikes. (Guess who will get the honor of lugging the trailer behind HIS bike?) We have enough stuff already to do a short over-nighter and are thinking of possible destinations right now. I think out biggest thing is just waiting until the heat breaks here in TX. We can survive the brutally hot days but we like it to be comfortable when it's time to go to bed. We don't camp or backpack until the nighttime temps are more reasonable.
We spent a good deal of time last night reading the "Road Less Pedalled" blog and watching their great videos. We were both sitting there saying, "That should be us!"
This, like the other forums I frequent, are filled with helpful/informative folks who have all checked their egos at the door. Needless to say, there are other forums on here I never venture into. . .
You know who you are!

I'll say thanks also...... I have been mostly lurking here (in the touring forum) for awhile now. I'm planning my first tour for the fall 3 day 2 nights (but have been thinking a bit longer, not sure yet). Anyway, I'm collecting stuff and adding it to the bike now. Here is what I have done so far... I don't know what I'm doing...... But I do know I'm having fun doing it....

I'll put in my thanks as well. My first trip is in a couple weeks and I learned a LOT from this forum.
