Yea, a friend did that to me once also. We got done with a long day's ride and I mentioned that I would love something cold to drink and he asks me if I want a Coke and I said something like "sure, did you carry any up those hills?" and he said "No, but you did" I had to laugh when he got down in my rear pannier and pulled out a couple of Cokes.

I know what I did was wrong but feel some people are being a bit harsh. The message I was trying to give was that you should never leave your bike unlocked and practical jokers should be aware that things can sometimes go awfully wrong. I thought telling my story would be helpful.

+1 I couldn't imagine the feeling of finding your bike gone while on tour.

Harsh? Not at all. We're actually holding our tongues and being quite polite to you. There's a lot more I'd like to say. What you did was absolutely despicable ... both stealing the bicycle in the first place and then not owning up to it.

+1. Personally, I think the story is B.S. if only because his alleged actions make no sense in light of the alleged lesson he was trying to teach. I believe he just needs to try to upset people and garner attention.

From experience... Trail mix with chocolate chips is f'n awesome at attracting bears. Almost got ourselves attacked while backpacking when one guy was dropping trail mix and we started getting followed by a massive brown/grizzly.

Why? Will you be traveling with people who would do mean things to you?

Lou, I don't know what to say about that, definitely feel so sorry for her. I think it would have been a very expensive tour for myself as I would have been buying her a new bike.
Absolutely.

And whether the "I hid her bike" story is true or false, the author is still an idiot.
