a Surly named Laika Pilgrim

I named my Surly CC, after almost a year of riding it. Nothing came to me in all that time. I took it on tour this summer, mostly up the California portion of the Sierra Cascades, and I grew to know it intimately. We'd gone through the good and bad, together. Its name is Laika Pilgrim. (pronounced Like a)

Laika is from the Arcade Fire song Neighborhood #2 (Laika), also known as Into the Wild because it was on that soundtrack. Well, Laika was the first dog to go into space, and a Soviet dog at that, haha...and I guess he didn't make it back. It's also a double entendre of sorts, as in "Like a."

The Pilgrim part came from Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five which I read on tour, a kid volunteer camp host from Michigan gave it to me in Yosemite. The book was just all right, I expected more of a master piece from Vonnegut who I'd heard so much about. Well, the protagonist--if he can even be called that--is named Billy Pilgrim. The word pilgrim kept floating around in my head and I just put them together: Laika Pilgrim.

And that is a good name! I didn't name the bike out of any sense that I had to; the name just came to me.

haha, all right. I'll get some when I get the chance. The tour isn't over. I need to make it down to LA from the Bay area in about a week. Ran into some legal trouble on the way and I need to appear in court. =/

Nope, that's staying private. Nothing serious, it'll probably get dropped to an infraction. It's more of an embarrassing headache than anything. Well, here are some pictures! [sorry, for the crappy cell phone pictures. I had my brand freaking new iPod Touch stolen in Sequoia National Park. It's been an eventful tour...]
