I rode Golmud - Lhasa - Kathmandu just a few months ago. You can check it out on my site. The security was not as tight as everyone had predicted. However, I got in and out right before the full shut down because of the coming 60th "celebration" of the Chinese take over. https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/thecyclingvagabond

I've been reading your blog in the past, quite a nice story on Tibet! I laughed at the way you passed the border with Nepal, playing the ignorant naive tourist, haha :-)
The dream for me is to pass through China taking the Southern route from Kashgar to Lhasa, coming from Kyrgyzstan, somewhere between October/January 2012. The more I read about it the less I think its possible. Besides, I would want to enter Laos from China, so I wouldn't want to risk getting kicked out of China early.

I like the show it book, and have been thinking about a few things I would like added, though if you dont want to do that I would add them myself.

How about a picture of a puncture repair kit?

Maybe a puncture?

Police? Ambulance?

Happy to hear that you like the show it book. We limited the amount of picture pages in the book so that cyclists wouldn’t have to scroll through too many pages to reach the photo that they want to ‘show’.

So Azesty - I think it’s great if you make your own ‘personalized’ show it book for cycling in China.

Of course we welcome contributors! What I do ask is that people send me an e-mail containing web addresses of their blog, profile on a community site ( like facebook , crazy guy on a bike, flickr, etc.) where I can see their photos and / or read the articles that they have written.

If it is for a smartphone, I think you can add links into it that will take you to the page you want, that way, if it opened up on an index, it would be just one extra touch to get to the start of the scrolling, which could be small

*starts collecting pictures

There are links in the index / table of contents page where a word – such as ‘toilet’ directly links to the corresponding photo. Unfortunately our smart phone (we bought it in 2010) only displays the “show it” book as a plain pdf without the links.

Good luck with collecting pictures! And yes, the idea for a show it book came about while cycling through China.
