Recomend me a frame!
Hey there! Bit of a tall order but I'm looking for a 26" centric touring frame that suits a 80-100mm travel fork (I've got a lovely Fox F80 that needs used!) preferably in steel with canti mounts and suits drop bar geometry well. Also has to be cheap!
Completely niche of course, but any ideas?

Since you are in the U.K., definitely Thorn. They have some sweet touring bikes that use front suspension. If your fork locks, you should be able to enjoy it on and off-road.
BTW, Thorn has a forum and people sell their used frames/bikes there quite often. Some good deals to be found or post a "wanted" ad.

There is a cheap option (but one completely lacking in snob appeal). At the bike shop recently, I noticed how similar the geometry of their 26er "comfort" bikes was to my beloved Thorn Ripio. Longish chainstays, lowish bottom brackets, "suspension" forks, strong frame (though aluminum), V-brakes, lots of braze-ons. Bikes like the Giant Sedona, Specialized Expedition, Motobecane Jubilee, etc.
You can probably find a cheap, lightly used example pretty easily since they're most often sold to casual bike path toodlers who quickly abandon cycling for the safety of their sofas. Strip it down of its questionable/undesireable parts and build it up exactly like you want. Expedition tourer on the cheap! Plus, the jaw-drop factor of a drop bar, F80 equipped Jubilee is not to be discounted...

Orange P7 is not a touring specific frame but is widely used and very versatile. Its basically like MTBs used to be in the 1990s but better.
The sliding dropouts allow you to build it for Rohloff or to convert to singlespeed in the event of a mangled derailleur.

That is a pretty strange geometry for a touring bike, if the BB height number is correct, it is pretty darn high. Because of the steering geometry I would want a large size in order not to be too cramped. The problem with a lot of MTBs with suspension is that they have a lot of travel built in, while a touring bike normally needs very little. That is why i would prefer a euro bike, they build this kind of thing, while for the most part too much travel is built into our shocks. There are viable road touring bike options, like hubs that have some travel, but it is really small compared to what one gets on MTBs.
I'd love to hear from the OP what he has in mind for this bike. It sounds ill though out, but maybe I stick to close to the blacktop.

I'm looking to up(down?)grade my girlfriends 05 Stumpjumper to something that is preferably made of steel for the more forgiving ride and has rack mounts included. Although the rack issue can be solved with one of the seat clamp to rack mount converters plus a QR adaptor, I'd rather avoid the faff!
The touring I've done previously has been a rather continuous mix of singletrack and everything else hence the request for a frame that accepts a 80mm travel fork. I was really keen on the Orange P7 but sadly no v brake mounts ): Might look to swap her Single Digit three's for some BB5/7's so I've got a lot more options. Wheels are already disc compatible which is nice.

The Surly Troll is not too expensive, steel, will take a 100mm travel suspension fork and has canti bosses for racks.
