Looking for a route: Houston, Texas to Asheville, NC

I'm planning a trip this fall from Houston to Asheville and I'm looking for a route idea. Don't want to take the Southern Tier Route. I was looking for something that might run a bit diagonally between the two towns.

I'd just refine Google Map's bicycle option to avoid Birmingham and Atlanta, smooth out any obvious kinks, and head off. Modify on the fly if need be based on info from locals. If you're so inclined, sign up with Warmshowers and look for potential host along the way.

I plan my routing on Google/ridewithgps.com, and transfer to paper maps which I then cut and tape into a convenient folding package. Order the free maps from state tourism sites.

consider the Natchez Trace as part of your route. Goes from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN.....

Spot on suggestion. No stress riding.
