recommendations - Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh

    Hey everybody,

I'm finishing up my contract in Korea and am starting to consider my next move. Last year I toured from Sault Ste-Marie, Canada, to New Orleans and I'm thinking of having a crack at south east asia. So, as the title says, I'm thinking of doing Vietnam.

My question is - what do you recommend: going from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh or the other way around? I'm mostly curious to know if one direction has an easier path (less uphill/winds/etc). My intention is to follow,as much as possible, the beach front as I believe it will be flatter/ish. Unless of course that proves to be a bad idea.

If you've done this route or know about it (or people), you're input would be appreciated!

i have done this route. it is not fun. it's mostly flatterish (except for a short climb north of
danang, i believe), but the traffic is horrendous, and the horns!!! anything bigger than a vw
beetle seems to have an airhorn, and they ain't shy about using them. you can do highway 1
and survive, but it won't be enjoyable. inland is preferred if you tour hanoi-saigon.
    crazyguyonabike has plenty of write-ups.

much more funner for cycling would be cambodia or laos....maybe thailand.

    Saddlesores,

yes, that makes sense. I didn't consider another culture's willingness/zeal to use their horn. I can't imagine doing that for a long time. The advice is much appreciate.

    Raybo,

thank you, too, for the links. These will prove to be very useful. I did, I must say, make a search but I didn't do too hot.

    Again, thanks for the help.
