Taking part in the Tour d'Afrique next year for a cause

Hi all.

I wasn't sure which sub-forum this would be most suited to - this or the long distance - but I consider this my home sub-forum so here goes!

Next year I'm taking 5 months off work and taking part in the Tour d'Afrique. This has been a dream/goal I've been working toward for the last 4 years. The trip is from Cairo Egypt all the way south through 10 countries to Cape Town in South Africa and is regarded as one of the most challenging cycling events out there, I'm sure some of you have heard of it.

One of the reasons I am doing this is to raise money for the Heart Foundation who have helped me and my family in the past. My goal is to raise $12,000 - one for each kilometre I will cycle. So far I am 1/3 of the way to my goal.

I realise I'm not a big member of the bikeforums community as I don't post often (I mostly lurk and read other threads) or no one really knows me, but I hope that this sub-forum might appreciate the event and the cause, and you guys have given me heaps of good advice on some previous tours I have done so wanted to tell you all about it.

If you would like to help by donating any amount to the cause, please check out the website I have setup for the ride at https://www.weetbicksgonewild.com. I will also be posting updates as I can through-out the trip (internet connection permitting) so keep an eye out for updates along the way.

I would also be hugely appreciative if you can try to spread the word and tell as many folks about it as possible, the more people who are aware of it and can help support then the closer I get to my goal.

Thank you for your time!

(Note - this is by no means fundraising for my trip - I've been saving for it out of my own pocket for the last 4 years, the fundraising is purely for the heart foundation which is a non-profit charity here in New Zealand).

Look forward to meeting you on the trip.

I am also going the full TDA and will keep my journal at https://www.bike2013.com

I am not fund raising.
