Past tense, "cruised". In college, I was out of state and went to a university in Russellville, Arkansas. My father lived 50 miles west at Ozark. My buddy's dad lived near Fort Smith. My other buddies lived in Little Rock / NLR. You could find us bicycling anywhere along that line. I bought my "Challenge" touring bike in 1984 and was using it to make those trips.
November, 2012, I took that 28 year old grand touring bicycle back to Arkansas to run that line again.
My lovely parmachi and I made a vacation week out of it.
We drove to NLR (the speed trap of Sherwood, actually). My college buddy took us to Fort Smith (and he went off to visit his dad).
Squeeze and I had a blast bicycling the 203 miles back to her sister's house. Instead of four days, we wound up taking five. No problem. We were not in a hurry and it was her first time to bicycle that kind of distance outside of the Texas (flat) area near where we live.
Same bike. Took it instead of the Big Dummy because it knows the way.
Same bonehead driver, only a lot heavier now. 150 against the 107 when I bought the bike.
Same beautiful bicycling.
US 64 from Fort Smith to Conway. In Conway, you do NOT turn and 64 will. You are then on
Arkansas 365 from Conway to North Little Rock. It will cross into Little Rock on the same bridge that you see famous footage of from the military occupation of Little Rock (Central High School) of 1959.
Ask me if you are not from Arkansas and want to bicycle west Arkansas. I might be able to help.
