They can be up around $40 or $45 here in Australia, depending where you are and what time of year you travel.

You missed the point of my question. Why do you classify alcohol as "frivolous."

I have seen (and paid) higher rates in the northeast. PA state parks are $20 or $25/night. Can't remember which. NJ state parks are $20 for residents. $25 for non-residents.

Alcohol is completely unnecessary for survival so it is frivolous. Perhaps frivolous wasn't the exact correct word but you should have gotten the idea unless you just want to argumentative. The reason that I singled out alcohol is that I have traveled with way too many friends that cried poverty yet were drinking just about every opportunity that they had. they were trying to travel on a $10/day budget (it seemed) and were complaining about money even though they spent a lot on alcohol.

If I dont eat out, I can live on a max of $40 a week on food. The deal is I am not going to be able to stock up on food and eat as well as I do for as cheap as I do.
I did bust out the camp stove and cook on it before I was able to get these modern appliance;s in my truck. I also has a portable charcoal grill I would carry and cook on when the weather was nice and there was more than just me. Eating out every meal was killing me about $45+ a day in food.
As far as plans on getting to the starting point and home afterwards really depends on where I plan to go so those cost will get figure up later. I have all the gear needed, so those cost are already covered. I dont have a house note, rent or storage fees and I plan to pay my vehicle insurance off before I leave. I do plan to be completely debt free before this trip happens so I dont have to worry about any bills. I am going to roughly plan on 40$ a day to do this trip.
What countries are you planning to travel in, for how long, and when are you planning to go?

I am planning to stay in the US. I was looking at doing a tour of Montana or keeping it southern and doing Tennessee Kentucky and maybe some of Alabama. Haven't quite decided on where or when because of the lack of funding and also I want to be debt free before I leave out. It is looking like it will be spring of 2014 before it will happen if everything keeps going like it is.

Why those choices? What do you want to see and do there? And how long are you thinking of touring?

Your first post in this thread said something about living on the road.
