are free hotel rooms possible?

Has anyone tried and received free hotel rooms as claimed in
http://bicycletouringpro.com/blog/tr...s-campgrounds/

The author is a seasoned bike traveler but I wonder if it is worth $27 to get such info - which sounds very much like an infomercial.

I feel that wild camping would have been out of fashion a long time ago if it was that easy to get 25+ free nights after writing a single marketing letter.

I stumbled across this youtube video summarizing a 9 month cycling trip of Europe in which the same author spends 3-4 weeks in major cities and claims to have increased his bank balance by 70% while touring. How he did it is not free info and is hidden in one of his many paid resources.

the travelling gigolo routine works well in this regard, but it has been proven to be statistically detrimental to maintaining planned mileage goals after a few weeks and profits tend to be offset by the necessary increased purchases of ChammyButter.

TANSTAFL

The only way I have gotten "free" hotel rooms is by using points from my travels for work or by buying a block of hotel rooms and having some comped due to the number of rooms being paid for. Hotels, like any other business are in business to make a profit, not give stuff away for free. So I guess I must be subsidizing this slug every time I pay for my hotel rooms.

I expect it would be easier to get some complimentary hotel stays if you've been operating a tourist-oriented website with documented readership and promise to feature the hotels in some of your travelogues. Staying during low travel periods would also help when the hotel knows they'll have rooms remaining empty. Doing charity fund-raising as a key part of your bike tour would also be likely to make it easier. Personally I'd rather save using the inexpensive and/or stealth camping method.
