Camp sites in europe map?
 

Hey,

I am planning my route on the EuroVelo 7 path from Berlin to Rome (using opencyclemap).
Is there a place I can find some map of campgrounds on my route, and maybe export this details as a Garmin waypoints?

Making a reservation for a tent spot is totally unnecessary :)

Usually campgrounds will have a place for a tent, but it does depend when your trip is. If you're travelling in August, you are not guaranteed to find a place. We were turned away from a couple campgrounds along the Rhine when we were travelling there last August because they were full.

But if you travel in September or July, it should be no problem.

Also Garmin City Navigator-Europe NT has all the roads, a lot the campgrounds and hotels- with phone numbers. I took my GPS almost as an after thought. It turned out to be the most useful navigation tool we had. Michelin maps were a close second. The GPS is a life saver, almost literally, when navigating through the larger cities. The Garmin maps are well worth the money. My wife tells people "that we would still be trying to find our way out of Barcelona if we did not have the GPS unit with us."

Doug- Did you try some of the free maps? Do you think the Garmin map worth the 99$ (for all Europe as I understand)?

Are you in the U.S. or Canada? If so, you might search for U.S.-based tourist offices for the countries you will be riding through. For example, Italy has one in NY:

Before a two-month tour is Spain in 2000 I contacted the Spanish National Tourist Office in NYC. They sent me a bunch of information on campgrounds.

Yes, for us it definitely was worth the cost. However, we spent 3 months months riding through 7 countries. We were not on established routes very often, and even when we were on a route; we would deviate a lot. It might not be as cost effective if you are on an established route for most of your trip.

We left Paris at the end of July and traveled through Switzerland and Germany through the month of August. We did not have much trouble finding campgrounds or hotels. If you plan on staying at a hotel on a Saturday night, it would be advisable to book ahead.
