Today,it's the three day backpacking hike I'll do with my wife in a couple of weeks. After that it will be something else.
A county ride...I dig it.

I'll second the recommendation of Adventure Cycling routes. It'd be hard to beat the variety you'll see riding the TransAm. Unless you're starting in December, when you'll want to ride the Southern Tier. Or if you start July 1, the Northern Tier would be great. Or unless you wanted to see the Sierras, Grand Canyon, Utah rock parks, California coast, Nebraska cornfields, etc., etc., etc.

So pick one and try it. Next time, try something else. You can see different, new things for a long time.

Ditto. Upper midwest in late summer or early fall has got to be one of the best places on earth. And WI has paved almost every road in the state.

Of the places I've been, hands down the White Mountains of New England.

But I haven't ridden much in the US.

I'd love to do a ride from, say, Rocky Mtn NP to Banff NP, but I don't have enough experience to call it 'best'. Wine touring in Sonoma would be pretty fun, I bet.

Actually, there is no "best" route anywhere. "Best" is a personal judgement and varies widely by individual.

Having said that, I think the Oregon Coast is a darn fine route. But I'm a little biased.

Definitely a great ride! I hesitate to say the best in the US, but definitely one of my favs.

See post #32 in this thread along with several others.

Now...Maybe if you supply some details as to what you enjoy and don't enjoy you might elicit tailored suggestions rather than ones that don't suit you.

It's usually the one you just rode. The difference between the best and next few is probably not much.

I'm doing Lake Champlain this year, but next year I'm staying close to home and riding Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

The point being, pick a tour and go. Next year do another. Soon enough you have a nice travel log of the bike tours you did on a place like Crazy Guy

Most of all give the rest of us a link to your rides. We all love reading them.

Exactly!

And not only varies widely by individual, but also by circumstance.

Favourite also depends on ... many things. As I've mentioned before, if a person were to ride a particular route one year, then ride it again 5 years later under different circumstances, it could easily move up or down the favourite scale.

And ... does the OP want us to substitute "favourite" for "best"? Is that what he meant?

But here's the thing ... because there is no definite "best", that's one of the best parts of touring/travelling ...

Nice. Do you enjoy relating to other people on tour? Telling them they're whiners and to to quiet down because you don't like their responses?

If you paid attention to the thread instead of finger wagging, you'd know that I did... not that I feel any need particular need to answer to you

Well ... how many times have you visited that place?
Did you have the same experience each time?
How many other places have you visited? Or is that it?
