Bike touring alive and well in Northern Michigan
I have been on vacation up in the Traverse City/Petoskey area of Northern Michigan for the last week and have seen a total of 12 touring cyclists out and about heading both north and south. I'm really not too surprised considering how beautiful of an area this is!

I don't know which is more beautiful, the forests or the coastline, but I make a trip to that area every year!

We were a little early for the peak of the fall colors last year, but we had a great ride around the state. We rode up the Lake Erie, Lake /Lake Huron side and then came down the Lake Michigan side. However, we did cut off the thumb
I believe part of Advenure Cycling's North Lake Route goes from Mackinaw City to Traverse City which could explain some of the "traffic". I'm not sure if it goes via of Petosky, but that was the route we took from Mackinaw City to Traverse City.
I think this was near Wolf Lake. The apex of our ride was Mackinaw City, similar to Marc's ride.

Just did a trip there in early June. Great trip. Tons of routes and places to see. A must do.
