Anybody flown with bikes on Air Canada?

px, sorry you had such a bad experience.
I must say however that I really do believe that other than boxing your bike in a way that protects your bike the best way possible (technique I mean), how the box will be treated depends completely on the specific baggage handlers that are touching your box--meaning what sort of mood they are in or if the guy in question is pissed off at the world and doesnt give a flying you know what about your box, and/or specifically takes pleasure at the sound a bike box makes when it is tossed.

One funny thing when checking in on my last trip in Toronto. I had the bike in a typical box, about 8 inches wide. One of the Air Canada staff who is doing a sort of pre-screening and organizing people asks if they are bikes, I say yes, and then, while looking at the box asks if the handlebars are turned sideways. Obviously never been near a bike. I wanted to say no but I had squeezed them together to fit them into the box, but thought better of it.
