What was it like? People, officialdom, dogs, the route is full of places with Ks in them that for the most part people used to avoid, did you enjoy them? Did you camp the whole way. I'm going over to look at the book now, but just curious.

One of the reasons I started leaning more towards 700c is because I kept on bending my elbows (while using flat bars) one day when I wanted to rush myself while doing errands. So I started thinking I'd prefer drop bars. Plus the frame geometry of the Nashbar touring frame might make it more realistic for drop bars. Ah, whatever, I'm rambling... hehe
Sounds good, although another option is butterfly bars... just to confuse you more. I have some on my tandem and I like them, lots of different positions.

I've uploaded a sample of the first quarter of my book to my website for free if anyone is interested: www.tombrucecycling.com/book

Lots of questions! I loved the Central Asian countries - they were some of my favourite - absolutely beautiful scenery and amazing people. Yep camped the whole way. Dogs were a big problem in Eastern Europe, officials in China were difficult! People in general were amazing. The book tells all these stories but if you want to read about it for free, my blog is at www.tombrucecycling.com/blog (although the book is a lot better!!)

Hi Paddy,

Tyres were 40mm too. I recommend Schwalbe Marathon Plus tour, they are fantastic. Well worth a bit of extra width for the comfort.

Hi,

I'd like to introduce my updated website www.tombrucecycling.com. There is lots of information on there about cycle touring and the various adventures I've done including tips and advice on choosing a touring bike, planning a route, what to take with you and loads more. There's also loads of photos and a blog about my adventures.

Many thanks, and please feel free to get in touch if I can help with any expedition planning advice or anything else,

Tom
