Ebay score???
I went ahead and got this 1983 Trek 520 bike on Ebay for 99 plus 40 for shipping. Did I make a mistake LOL... I was trying to get an inexpensive stumpjumper to turn into my main touring bike but the $$$$$$ kept stopping me. I know this 2 wheeled giddyup has 27" tires so perhaps that is 1 drawback. I'd like to basically cannibalize the frame and update as necessary. Any input?

it doesnt look like a 520 to me. even for 83 it should have cantis or at least center pulls. also it doesnt seem to have rack and fender mounts,or lowrider mounts. I could be wrong, but even if its not a 520,it still seems like a decent deal.and I wouldnt let the 27" tire bother you. there are plenty of choices out there and can still be bought at places like wal-mart in a pinch. there is a website to date old treks by the serial # but I cant remember what it is. either way congrats on a great old find!
edit #1 vintage-trek.com
edit#2 I am wrong. acording to this page of the 1983 brochure it is indeed a 520. The serial # listed in the ad denotes it as an 83 model, not an 82

He said it was an 82 but I compared the SN with the vintage trek site before buying it and it indicated it was an 83, plus the parts list matches up with the 83 brochure for a trek 520....

thats funny... I am 6'2" also and my inseam is only 31. the "twins " are "nested" on a 21" frame. a mishap on a 24" frame would just about guarantee I dont have any kids!
