You had a prior fascination with 650B, that's a 1.5" wide equivalent .. why now do you want wider, Now?

1.75" Conti Travel Contact is their ride past the end of the road Touring tire.. wider than that is kinda superfluous..
the tread features a slick, kevlar backed, center band and knobs on the edges,.. did get people saying my mtb tire was going bald.
so i had to explain why that was actually, cool its a road tire with gravel road traction ..
gator skin sidewall reinforcing mesh, too . . .. . .only other size made, is 700c 37.

One advantage to being a frame up build is You get to ride the bike a while before deciding where you want it to be cut..
Just buy the number of spacers to reach the top for now .. you can shuffle them above and below the stem..
I have a separate stem for mounting my handle bar bag stacked under the one that holds the handlebars..
Complete bikes someone decides how tall the steerer should be based on the size of frame ,
but that may not be what the retail buyer wants.

Currently slammed because no headset yet (rattling gets annoying when moving the bike around)
Afterwards spacers will go in although never heard of an extra stem to hold a barbag - any pictures ?
Thanks !

Man, you forgot to mention the VeloOrange bell on your spec list. I rotated the dome forward on mine for better aerodynamics. Okay, it was it was easier to find the spring/clanger thing that way.

I went with the Deore 59x 48/36/26 crankset and derailleurs on my recent (non-Surly) build and couldn't be happier with them. I also recently found out the BCD of that crankset allows a 22t chainring to be installed, which might not be a bad idea for a touring bike. I don't know if the Deore cranksets are compatible with STI shifters, though.
I have only recently come to appreciate the 26" wheeled Surly LHT's. I'm a city/town rider rather than a tourer and if the LHT had shorter chainstays, I would probably buy the 56cm 26" version.
