Velo Orange "Camargue" (N+!)

That's actually one of my biggest complaints about my Camargue. I would much rather have more upslope to the top tube, a taller head tube, and fewer spacers. Then again, I'm coming from a mountain biking background.
For the life of me, I do not understand why Velo Orange specs all of their frames with such short headtubes. It would seem to me that that "target" riders would not be cyclists seeking an aggressive riding position. I understand that you can still stack up a bunch of spacers on the steerer tubes, but that looks kind of tacky.

It a rebirth of the classic mountain bikes of the 80s whose long wheelbases and slack geometry lent themselves admirably well to commuting and touring. Its a time-tested design and its cheaper than similar dedicated touring bikes.

Corwin1968 and Seat_Boy thanks for the inputs.
I always thought that the Camargue from their promos as something smaller, like a 53 or a 56

By the way, does anyone else finds odd the lack of Camargue builds around forums and blogs?
I mean, this kind of bike is generally prevalent on internet goers, and VO tells they are selling lots of them

Also FWIW, I bought a frame one size bigger than I first imagined based off their geo chart. I'm about 5ft6" and was about to buy the 50cm, but tried out the 53cm prototype they had lying around. It fit better, the top tube is pretty short, as I believe it was designed with drop bars in mind for off road touring.
Last note, I caught a glimpse of another prototype they haven't announced, and can see Velo Orange is doing some very cool things.

I also ordered mine a little bigger than I normaly would.
I usualy ride a 58cm bit went with the 59cm. That way I got a taller headtube and bigger triangle than with the 56cm.
About their prototypes, there was an hint on discbrakes on the iceland tour post of their blog

I must be missing something; I was disappointed that the OP chose the Sage color when Orange is superior in every way and in every shade to Sage. The company's name is Velo Orange, for goodness sake, not Velo Sage. MHO.

That orange was apparently only a prototype color; the production bike only comes in green.

I love the sage; the color is one of the reasons I might actually buy the bike.

If I remember correctly, VO also stated on their blog that in-person, the orange was hideous looking. I assume the economics of having prototypes built and painted makes it not feasible to try a lot of different colors so they specified two at the outset and chose the one they preferred. That's just a guess on why a third color didn't enter the picture.

Neat bike. Too bad they don't have a 58 or 59 cm in 26". I may have been torn between this and a future Trucker build -- or not, because I'm going with the Disk Trucker. Color doesn't sell me on a bike (I despise the maroon on the Disc Trucker), but that sage green on that VO is awesome -- Some green duck cotton Ostrich bags would look sick, along with some stained green wood fenders and blacked out wheels.

I know that VO advises you to get the campeur if you mainly do road touring but I still think I'd get the camargue as you can use it on or off road.

I probably wouldn't even do road touring, being a recreational rider. However, the Camargue is something special in that it handles like a "normal" bike (ie, not French low levels of trail or MTB high levels of trail), looks like a normal bike and you can put 60mm Big Apples on it!! That's awesome!

Yes, I went ahead and bought the frame. I had to travel in the last weeks and had no time to finish the build. I'll try to finish it this saturday and do the inaugural ride.
Anyway, firt impressions on the frame are positive, the finish and overhaul details are a mile ahead of my last Surly frames. While trying the rolling chassis the BB are seems somewhat flexy (more só than my late Surly Ogre)
