GPS touring recommendation
Any recommendations on a bicycle-mounted GPS unit?
Primary purpose is tracking where I've been so that I can download it to mapping software and generate after-the-ride trip graphics. I think that means I'll need a memory-stick for extended memory.
It's not so much for during-the-trip navigation. I don't want to have to bring a laptop or a PDA.
I'd appreciate any experience/advice. Thanks, Ed

I use a Garmin Plus III, and it downloads directly from the unit to a computer, or vice-versa. Is this going to be a long ride your keeping track of? I'm not sure how much memory you're going to need. My Garmin keeps total track of mapping details, for track-back purposes. You should carry a daily log book, and record in writing each day. Things like miles traveled, ride time traveled, and points (A town to B town) can be written in this journal, and calculated later. I would also write a description of the days ride. You never know, you might want to write a book about it someday. I should also mention carry extra batteries each day.
Hope this helps some, and if you wish give us some more details on the planned ride.

Thanks Trek. I'm going on a 7-day, 650 mile trip (circumnavigating the Chesapeake Bay) and I want a device that'll store my entire route. Swapping memory sticks is OK, but I don't want to have to carry a laptop etc. Thanks for your suggestions! Ed
