NYC Bike Shops (For touring)
Lots of bike shops on this fine island I call home, however most of them cater to road bikes/commuters/mtn bike/ fixies.
I'm sure Im not the only one from NYC on this forum, can anyone recommend a good shop in the city that carries some touring bikes and equipment.
Thanks!
PS,
always remember WSP sucks

Trek 520 will cover the bike end .. they are fine..
And the Many dealers of QBP's stuff can get the popular LHT.
+ there are custom builders that can ship the bike of your dreams to your NYC address
so it does not have to be sitting on the sales floor waiting for you..
the rest would come from the outdoor equipment / backpacking stores .. CampMor[NJ]. REI, EMS , etc.
almost by definition Touring expertise in Bike shops is rare,
because to get paid most of the work is in the summer
while Other people are touring and you cannot.
[plus the Bike-shop wages are low so unless your S.O. has a better job ..
you can't afford tours in the winter in the southern hemisphere summer.
then like her job as a college professor , or something, has them working.]

I popped into Sid's 151 W 19th St, they seemed pretty friendly, had a Surly or two on the floor built, some Tubus racks and fenders kicking around. Accessory prices were very high, but then again it's a storefront in Manhattan. I popped into Metro down on Varick St, was about the only person in there and was there for a good while killing time...nobody even so much as said hello, lots of bikes on display though, mostly urban oriented flat bar road bikes. They also had a fair amount of bags, fenders etc.
A co-worker recommends https://www.nycvelo.com/bikes/ I haven't had a chance to get there yet.
No clue on any specifically first-hand really.

.. quick check on above nycvelo site , they have a Serotta size cycle to get the fit - feel right ,
and then there is the numbers, dimensions,
to let you get an idea about what standard frame size to start from.
