European cycling
I'm not sure this is the best forum for this question, but I am planning on trip to Europe this summer. I haven't nailed down all the exact destinations, Germany will be one for certain as I will be staying with family some of the time, but the other place I'm considering is Scotland. I don't really know a lot about it, but what I was thinking about was going to Edinburgh for a couple of days and then maybe somewhere a little more rural and doing a day or two bike ride. Does anyone have any recommendations for cycling in Scotland? I don't intend to take my bike so obviously I'd need to rent something.
Like I said I'll be spending at least a week in Germany, my sister lives close to Frankfurt and is looking to bike routes/trips in that area. My sister has also suggested Poland, she's been there several times, and says the people are very friendly and the cost is lower than places like Germany. My plans are pretty undefined right now so let me know if you have any experience with any of those locations. We plan to be in Europe about 3 weeks, we won't be cycling all that time but I wouldn't mind spending a total of a week of it in the saddle.
thanks
Bernie

Check out the border region where England and Scotland meet.
Inverness to Oban on the south side of Loch Ness has less traffic than the north side where the main Highway is..
Its Higher too.

Have a look at the story of the European portion of our 2012 Round-the-World tour ...
The UK portion (most of which was in Scotland) is here: https://www.machka.net/RTW_2012/RTW_Europe_2012.htm
The mainland Europe portion (about 3 weeks of which was in Germany) is here: https://www.machka.net/RTW_2012/RTW_Europe_Main_2012.htm
They might give you some ideas.

Do not rent, buy a used bike when you get there. At the end of your trip list it on the Internet and sell it. On my last cycling vacation in Canada I bought a bike for 100 Canadian dollars and at the end of my two week trip I sold it for 85. This way I did not have to return to my starting point. Just make sure you test ride it and the bike is comfortable. John
