Hey Spinnaker,
i can check my local shop, the Old Spokes Home, who sells Jamis bikes. They may have one in stock since they are big on touring. You could drop on over and you could try some snow biking on my fat bike! I'll stop in Monday, they are only 2 blocks from work. Though everytime I stop in I spend money :-)
Oh, even though those coastal folks are afraid to bike in the snow, Burlington is teeming with bike commuters all winter. We know how to bike & drive in snow.

Oddly enough , as a Touring destination or at least waypoint... sales of touring gear is sparse at best..
most folks have the full kit when they arrive .. so one 520 sits on the floor ... and any orders for LHT
would be placed on demand, but not stocked ..
mountain bike gun rack for elk season is stocked , though.
and fat bikes (with the rider's shellfish licence to go get their razorback clam limit) is a good seller, for beach riding.

Yeah I would imagine to have a successful touring store, you would need a primo tour area combined with a nearby populous area. I will bet there aren't too many places that fit that bill.

Astoria .. 101 from WA crosses the bridge over the Columbia River .. the market place for all that stuff is Portland .
its not so near by a 2 hr drive. over the Coast range
where they have over half the population in the State, an REI and a bike shop, on most blocks //
I think there's 300.
here there's 1 bike shop and 4 microbreweries .. and lots of places to eat andDrink.. and a Maritime Museum .
motels and hotels.

Are there touring oriented stores in Portland? The only store I visited there was REI. Shipped our bike there and they built them for us.

Spinnaker - It looks like you must have found a decent day and made it out to Ambridge Bikes to look at the Jamis! Let me know if you get it and we can hook up for an early season ride. I have been getting very restless waiting for all of this snow to finally melt for good...

but a store focusing on travel is more likely selling suitcases and things for the air travel part of the trip .
