Brew Pubs along the Southern Tier

A couple of good friends and riding partners of mine are about to take off in a couple of weeks on a cross USA tour following the Adventure Cycling Southern Tier route traveling East to West. As we have a shared love for good beer, I thought as a parting gift I would try to provide them a list of "too good to miss" brew pubs that they might be able to visit along the way. I would appreciate any suggestions of breweries to visit or links to lists that may have already been documented.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The ST just got a new route through Austin TX and there are enough good ones to warrant a rest day or two in town to check them out. I believe the route runs along the river in town and Billy's is a good one with BBQ that should be practically on the route. ABGB is more of a beer garden in South Austin but again just a few blocks off of the river route. A fun town to take a break in. I'm heading down there in a couple weeks and plan on taking in some more of the local brews.

Not sure where the ST route goes through the hill country west of Austin but there are good brew pubs in both Johnson City and Fredericksburg TX.

I have no advice but this sounds like it has the potential to be the best tour ever.

Since someone has already mentioned Austin, I will list my favorites in Austin:

Rogue (North East Austin - Pflugerville)
Jester King (South West Austin - Dripping Springs)
Thirsty planet (real close to Jester King)
512 (South Austin, more in town than others listed above)
Adelberts (North Austin, more in town than others listed above)

At the eastern end of your tour is Swamp Head Brewery and Tall Paul's in Gainesville, FL and A1A Brewery in St Augustine. Very little between Tallahassee and Gainesville.

Are your friends doing an online journal? I am doing the Southern Tier in March of 2015 and would love to follow them on their tour. Also, my son works one of the pub districts in Austin and as a bike tourer himself, he would really enjoy showing like minded people around.

BluesDawg,

Came across this item while wondering around the interweb this evening and remembered your post here. Thought this might suit your request.

Thanks for the responses. Our club had a Bon Voyage party for them tonight and I passed on some of your tips. They are especially looking forward to Austin and San Diego. Susan downloaded the PubQuest app to her iphone.
They will post their updates here and here.
