Planning 1,000+ Mile Charity Tour For 2015

I have a big event each August in Texas. For 2015 I am considering biking there (from Ohio) for charity purposes. I have no doubts that I can involve my groups to raise the money but I have to do my part this year to prove to myself I can do the ride. Fitness, bike, bike packing, mental, etc. all the things that go into going from a weekend outing (few nights camping) to tour-capable will go into it. The great thing is that I have over a year to do it.

I'l be riding from Vandalia, OH to Arlington, Tx. Google Maps shows about 1,050 bike miles though I know I'll have to go over routes, etc. but I'll probably end up around there and I'm most likely not going to be over 1,200 miles.

So.... be prepared for several advice threads.

My fourth ride on a loaded bike was the first day of a nearly 4 month tour, and I had never camped before. Aside from getting a route down, one way to look at it is as nothing more than what you have already been doing, just more times in a row.

Once I improve at it I would agree. Right now I'm on the beginning stages of getting competent at living on my bike. Right now my outings are close to home so there is a safety net. I have yet to be 500 miles away from home and have a problem with my bike or not be able to find food. I'm not been on routes that I am somewhat familiar with, etc.

If I can pull this off only about 50 miles of this route will be known to me (as of this minute). As corporate joins in I'm going to try and find people along the route to lend support, advice on routes, etc.

In theory I will have people along the way join in for a stretch. If they can get their own pledge then great otherwise it will just be for exposure or company.
