I carry mine in a neoprene protector toward the top of the backpack. So far no problems. I also carry my GoPro camera in my handlebar bag...so far no problems...at least once I got the darn wifi turned off so the battery wasn't getting drained while the camera was shut off.

I've been carrying various versions of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air in my rear panniers for several years and have never had any damage at all. I encase them in a neoprene sleeve and then just slip them in the pannier. With all solid state parts (SSD, etc), I don't consider the computers fragile at all and they have each held up perfectly.

I bought a Macbook Air with a SSD to "future-proof" myself a bit so I won't have to reinvest in a laptop for several years. The Mac desktop I bought when I was 17 in 2007 is still being used daily (I gave it to my parents as a gift). This laptop NEEDS to live a long time because I can only afford to invest in a laptop every once in a while.

It's worth a sweaty back to know that the laptop is safe from vibration, but if someone else out there has already taken a chance with a pannier over a few thousand miles with no issues, my paranoia will be dissuaded and I can make myself more comfortable on tour.

Worth the survey.
Commuted with laptop outside of Rochester for a couple years. I used an armored backpack... I would used a giant ziplock around the laptop then put it into the backpack.

A couple times there was humidity on the ziplock.

The thing I worried about was crashing and landing on the laptop.

One thing, make sure it's off and cooled off before it's packing it away..

I carry my Macbook Air in my panniers on touring bike AND in my saddlebags on my motorcycles all the time. Never had a problem.
