Cheap, wide front rack?

I was thinking it might be nice to have a wide front rack that would be capable of hauling a bundle of firewood when doing campground camping. Anyone know of anything?

Fire wood? Better off keeping the weight on the back. Better yet, just carry a folding saw.

.

I agree that the rear rack is probably the better place for wood. I don't think you need a particularly wide rack for wood though.

I have hauled a bundle of firewood now and then, but always after setting up camp so the top of the rear rack was always available and worked fine. I don't see any need for a rack to be especially wide for hauling a bit of firewood.

Thanks, bwgride.

Medic, that's exactly what my bike looked like this past weekend(minus the front). We knew we weren't going to reach camp in time to buy wood there, and didn't want to hunt in the dark. I loaded two bundles onto the rear rack for the last ~5mi+ to the site. I think it would have been better to have had one on the rear and one on the front.

Earlier this spring, my wife picked up a camo folding box. canvas, compressed up flat and it was like a buck at a flea market. I take it, place it flat in a rear pannier. A few weeks ago, i set up camp, unloaded everything and had things all ready to go for the evening. i unfolded my box. grabbed some straps and headed off with a small folding saw. I grabbed up some firewood and ferried it back to the camping spot. It worked well.
