New Touring Bike: Raleigh SSCXWC13 Limited Edition Reynolds Steel Cyclocross

For the first time since I started touring 8,000 miles ago, I upgraded my bike, and since it's kind of a rare bird, I thought you guys might be interested. I'll post pictures in the Touring BIke thread where they're supposed to be, but here's details on the build:

Raleigh SSCXWC13 Cyclocross Bike

Would love feedback, since it's definitely non-traditional. It'll run 40c tires and I've got a setback rack so the Ortliebs don't hit my heels.

Cheers!

'Cyclocross' is an over used Niche label of marketing these days..

you broke no ground .. hundreds of people pass thru here on all sorts of bikes all summer

you only are boasting you bought a new bike .. fine..

I ran Nokian A10 tires 622-40 on my touring rig 18 years ago .

I got the frame built hands on trying my own design thoughts ..

few fabricate much on these forums it's mostly shopping touts like yours..

now go back to work.

Thanks Bob... Not saying it's breaking new ground, just that there's only a handful of these frames in the world and Raleigh almost never works with Reynolds 525. The geometry is also tighter than most touring bikes, so it's not another generic tourer.

At any rate, not everyone can afford to custom-build their own frame, though I'm sure there's interest in your custom work in the forum. Thanks for mentioning it.

...And yes, you're right. I'm super excited about the new bike and wanted to share, too

Nice bike. I grew up in Pittsfield. I would kill to get back to the Berkshires with my cyclocross bike.

You realize Raleigh left making any bikes in Nottingham England decades ago, right ?

but it seems an OK, Rather steep geometry disc brake bike .. call it cross or commuter ..

a 'straggler' sold by 'surly' may come out of the same shop..

BTW I saved a lot of money being in the shop and taking part of the work actually building quite a bit of it myself

cost was mostly materials and time shared in the shop, and the machine tools , owned by someone else ..

if you sell the writing and then go shopping then thats your thrill ..

im not even posting pictures mine are on film .

Bob, you critique others for buying things and for talking about them in the forums because it's a "shopping tout."

I would argue that posting pictures of odd bikes/finds is a means of sharing and exploring bike touring. I certainly enjoy the posts of others.

Out of your 39,000 contributions, how many are complaints about what other people post?

+1

I was looking at Raleighs for my replacement CX/lite tourer non-disc frameset. Ended up with a Kona.

There is always d2r2 in Deerfield. Did the 100K a few years ago. Not my kind of riding, but a beautiful route. We are going back this weekend to do the Green River route of the event. We may also do a tamer part of one of the longer routes and just not use the rest stop since we didn't register for it. I went to high school at Deerfield Academy. It's fun to go back.
