I've driven across south Florida many, many times. Cycling is different. Can anyone speak about the difference between crossing from Fort Meyers to the east coast (on the way to the Keys) via the ACA route down US27 (to FT Lauderdale then south) vs going across on US41?
I've cycled US 27 from Tallahassee to Miami and loved it. I've also pedaled US 98 from Mobile, AL to I believe Bartow, FL where I picked up US 17 to Punta Gorda, then 41 thru Fort Myers and Naples, over to Miami (Tamiami Trail). 41 thru Fort Myers was a bit busy, especially the bridge coming into the city. I took back streets thru the city. Between Fort Myers and Naples there was a good bike lane, but tons of broken glass. From Naples to Miami the first half had a lot of rough pavement and rumble strips before each bridge (many bridges), pretty rough. But I drove thru there later (about 6 months ago) and the highway had been re-paved and was very nice, saw a lot of cyclists.
