I didn't think I'd like the bar ends with friction front that came with my Vaya ,being used to indexed shifting and flawless front derailleur shifting with my Ultegra 9sp triple setup but have been more than satisfied with the front friction function of the 9sp microshift bar ends that came with the bike. The indexed rear microshift bar end is sloppy though and has been problematic. Haven't solved that one yet. Will likely change the crank to something similar to what judes21 did as I have no need for the 50t large ring that came with the Vaya nor the 30t inside ring which needs to go down to at least 26t, better yet 22 or 24t. I could just change the 30t and save money but feel I would be best served if all three rings were smaller.

48/38/26 sounds like what you want. Still get a good a top speed but you have the 26 to give you extra granny gears. Combine that with a 32 or 34 at the rear and theres nothing you can't spin up.
