Katy Trail, Best Time
Looking to do Katy Trail in 2015. What is the best time of year to do so primarily related to rain and excess heat?
Thanks
Thanks

Fall is the best time for a bicycle trip, anywhere. I vote October.

I've done the entire Katy trail in mid-June the last 4 years and plan on doing it again in 2015. Last year was the driest with no rain during the ride and only a sprinkle one night. Other years it's rained pretty much. It was hot one day last year, but OK the rest of the times. A few years ago it was hot every day. Plus being by the Missouri River quite a bit, humid too. Often there is plenty of shade, but then there are some long stretches with little to no shade.
If you'd like to join the group that I ride with, here's last year's information. Sign-up for 2015 starts on March 1st and probably will fill up in about 3 days. The url will be the same as below except for a 5 in place of the 4.

However I'd like to do the Katy trail in October one year when the leaves are turning.
If you can stand the cold, riding along the river sections is a treat when the leaves are gone from the trees. You can see a lot more of the bluffs and rock formations.

I had a great time late October and early November a few years ago. But one morning it was below freezing, that was a bit chilly. We did some camping, some indoors. Earlier in October might be a bit warmer.

Did it end to end in October. Great ride. It's not paved, so spring runoff can be a problem and summer is hot and buggy. Early October is best.
