Nice!

Rowan and I did a hub-and-spoke tour in similar conditions quite a few years ago.

We drove out to a campground, parked the car and set up the tent. We were the only ones there one night and I think someone else came and stayed on the other side of the campground the second night so we were pretty much alone in the middle of nowhere ... beautifully quiet.

It was late enough in the season that the leaves had all fallen in great crunchy heaps all over the place, and the overnight temps dropped below freezing, but that just added to the experience.

And we cycled and explored during the day.

Yes, thread is of course an open-ended type, many short tours not esp worthy of a separate thread but still interesting to read different experiences.

And it is the "2015 - Your Short Tours" thread ... created for us to discuss our short tours in 2015. If I'm not mistaken, it is still 2015.

Just got home from an overnight cycling tour. Just a short tour, but an enjoyable weekend nonetheless.

We drove to Kettering, parked the van, unloaded our bicycles and gear ... then caught the ferry across to Bruny Island, from there we cycled to Adventure Bay, stopping for chocolate fudge at the Bruny Island Providore (Bruny Island Providore ) and lunch at the Bruny Island Berry Farm (https://www.brunyislandberryfarm.com.au/ ). We weren't sure what to expect with the Bruny Island Berry Farm because sometimes places like that can be quite expensive and rather have a rather limited selection, but they were reasonably priced and the food was good. We had pancakes with ice cream, whipped cream and strawberries.

Then we picked up dinner supplies at the Adventure Bay grocery store, and set up camp in a grassy area at the campground, populated by rabbits and wild hens.

Once we were set up, we went for a walk along the beach ... the campground is right across the road from the beach. Rowan whipped up a delicious rice, tuna and veggie curry with his Trangia, and then and after dinner, we went for another walk along the beach. Then we spent the evening relaxing and reading. When we went to bed, we were lulled to sleep by the rhythmic roar of the waves.

Even though it got down to about 11C overnight, we were warm and cozy in our tent. Rowan, however, had a bit of difficulty with his mattress.

Today, we packed up and cycled to the Pennicott tours office and checked in. We had booked for their 3-hour tour, and it was great!! Well worth it! The scenery, the seals, the birds, the dolphins, and the speed!
Bruny Island Cruises

And then we cycled back to the ferry terminal ... stopping at the Bruny Island Berry Farm for lunch, of course. Toasted croissants with cheese for me, and a toasted salmon baguette for Rowan ... with meringues, cheesecake, ice cream, cream, and strawberries for dessert.

Saturday was quite a nice day .. today was drizzly and cooler. But we were prepared for the weather. And although the route does include some flat sections in the middle, it is fairly hilly at the beginning and end. A few steep ones which were a bit of a challenge with a load.

Total tour: 83.39 km

Bruny Island Cruises

This should, ideally, be a short promotional video of the 3-hour cruise we took. It was, of course, taken on a bright sunny day ... ours was drizzly. But we did see the scenery and animals shown in the video.

axolotl, the point of this thread IS to bump it.

This thread is for writing about a short tour that someone wants to post about, but not necessarily wants to make a new thread about.

If you don't want to post in this way, that's fine. Stop harassing those that do.

MY point, is that Machka bumps pretty much all of the threads she starts, and that if similar behavior became widespread, this forum would cease to function. I suggest you do a little research. You might be surprised at what you see. You might even learn that this very thread is redundant. And no, the point of this thread is not "to bump it", and certainly not by disguising bumps as bogus replies weeks or months later.

well, i had a nice mini-tour today, i guess you could call it that.
while the chinese teachers were taking their traditional 3-hour
noontime nap, i rode out through the pineapple fields and the
betel palm plantations to the beach. only 16 km each way
direct, but took the long way through villages and rice fields,
total about 45 km.

No an overnighter exactly but I went for a nice tour around the Valley yesterday. It was -5C when I left and didn't seem to warm up that much but nice sunshine and sights along the way.

This is a 2015 touring thread so anyone can post in it in 2015; it's not that hard to understand.

Since you don't seem have anything relative to post about in here, please leave this thread.

Thanks. BC is pretty nice with such a mix of scenery. About the only downside are the hills. You can ski Whistler of course, or do a Century ride from there to Horseshoe Bay along the Sea to Sky Hwy, which is quite popular. In the summer they even turn the ski area into a world class MTB course complete with lift rides for the bikes. I'm lucky to also dive a lot so each weekend is a battle between which I'll do. Dive/ride/dive/ride... First world problems.

This ride I did was partly to research an idea I have for an urban/suburban lower mainland event utilizing dike systems and smaller farm roads. I think I could link two or three days between historic sites and funky stops riding off the beaten path without being much more than a 1 hr drive from home. I'm planning to start a biweekly riding club thing this spring with a bunch of interested friends and hope to take them on day routes I'm doing with perhaps a weekend buildup. By spring I'll have a whole lower mainland itinerary.

Haha, the censor wouldn't let me spell dike with a y

We thoroughly enjoy cycling in lower mainland BC. Much of my family is in that area so we've done several hub-and-spoke style tours there while visiting relatives. Back in 2011, we did a slightly longer tour where my father dropped us at the Tsawwassen ferry, we sailed across to Vancouver Island, cycled up to Nanaimo, sailed back across ... my father picked us up and dropped us at my grandmother's place just outside Vancouver, then we cycled back to my parent's place from there the next day.

I've also done a fleche (BC Randonneurs) in that area.

There are some really nice smaller farm roads ... and it is so scenic.

I just watched your video.

Very nicely done!

But ... wow ... did it ever make me feel "homesick". I've never lived in that area, but I have spent quite a bit of time there, and as mentioned, most of my family is there. I've cycled many of those roads ... so familiar.

Glad you liked it

I have also done the Nanaimo - Victoria loop. It's amazing to have such access to ferry service for all the islands and for cyclists very cheap too. You can use an experience card (like a pre-load CC) and get up to 40% off the already low price.
