Dolan Pre Cursa - What Crank/BB should we get?? Sugino RD2? SG75? SRAM Omnium?
We just purchased a used Dolan Pre Cursa frame and fork via eBay and need to source a bb and crankset. (If it matters, we got a 58cm Pre Cursa.)
Looks like Dolan specs a Sugino RD2 103mm BB along with Sugino RD2 on the Pre Cursa. So, how good or bad is the Sugino RD2 BB and crankset combination? Okay or not?
There appear to be some pretty good prices on SRAM Omniums on eBay but I have come across conflicting opinions/posts on whether or not the Omnium cranksets will work with Dolan Pre Cursas.
The Omniums I have seen are listed as 108mm BB. I do not care about the additional 5mm of width if they in fact fit without chainline or chainstay striking issues.
Anyone know if Omnium will or will not work? Anything I ought to know or measure or check prior to buying an Omnium BB/crankset assuming I do not go with the RD2 BB/Cranks?
(I am building up the Dolan for one of my sons and once he is up and running on it I can start using our Cannondale Caad5 Track.)
1) While the 130BCD RD2 cranks will work, I'd suggest that get some 144BCD (track standard) cranks like the Omniums you are considering.
2) Contact Dolan directly for info about if the cranks will have issues. I'm 99.9% sure they'll be fine. Dolan customer support is great. I've contacted them about a few things and got a prompt reply. Dolan Bikes - Showroom Info
Thanks. I will contact Dolan as soon as I have the frame serial number, etc. I do want 144BCD to match the other rings we have accumulated. David K
I doubt that the serial number would be necessary. Just make and model should be enough.
