Very cool, when you attacked in the first race, whoosh. What camera are you using?

Racing is the best training so here is a short video of the end of a race that I won this past summer.
It was a 10-mile final, and I took 2 laps on the field with two other guys. These two guys are much, much, much better at time-trial efforts than I am. It was a good breakaway to be in, but I hurt deeply. But here's how I won: I started slacking off on my pulls after we took the second lap. I still wanted us to go fast (never hurts to set the record!), but I wanted to win - I needed to win, for rider-of-the-year points. So I eased just enough to ensure that I'd have one match to burn at the end of the race. My breakmates noticed that I wasn't going as fast as they were anymore, but couldn't do anything about it.
With 2 to go, the guy in blue was on the front at the wrong moment when the guy in black/orange accelerated; blue couldn't follow. Coming around turn 4 about to get the bell, black/orange and I were together but he left the sprint lane open for me and I took it. "When in doubt, lead it out" - if you think you're slower, then, you want to be sprinting from further forward! I got the drop on black/orange, but he was closing the gap.
Coming through turns 3 and 4 I went up to the red line to force black/orange wider and wider around me - I hung him out on my hip. Coming out of turn 4 you can slam back down to the red and get a hair more momentum back. I did that. Black/orange still closing...
But I finished it off with a bike throw.
Even endurance races end in sprints, so you should learn how to sprint; and every time you're on a bike you should practice a bike throw.
it just might come in handy.

You came pretty high out of the sprinters lane just after turn 4. Are they fairly lax about that at that track, or did no one spot it?

I put my tires on the line but didn't cross it. They're pretty good about calling sprint lane violations at our track, and they're not afraid to change results because of it.

I have no intentions here to be a jerk, in any way. Just intersted in the dynamics of racing. Thought i spotted this when i first watched your clip (awesome race, really well ridden), and watched a few more times to be sure:

I'm actually way more worried that someone is going into a final sprint, elbow to elbow, with his hands on the tops... which I think is is beyond ridiculous.

That line where you draw a red mark is the black line. Although I can't tell from that screen capture or the original posted video clip, he looks to be on the red line. And while I'm usually the one advocating for stricter enforcement in this area, I didn't see an egregious movement or impediment there.

And +1 regarding hands on the tops. Makes me twitch when riders around me do this, sprint or not.

Yeah. That guy is an aerodynamicist; a very good bike racer who dabbles in track sometimes. We all gave him pretty solid guff for sprinting in the sphinx position.

Why? I mean I'd be bothered if it's right on front of a big group, because you can't support yourself nearly as much if you have to back pedal, but when you have space to maneuver, and are only going to take yourself down, how is it worse than being on the hoods in a crit?

The hoods give you something to lean into, just like the the hooks of the bar. Stay in the drops, even if its just for the sake of others!

There was a time when aerobars were allowed during flying 200s. You can't do that anymore, either.
Road bike hoods have a well-defined grip area. Riding on the tops without hoods is simply not as safe.
I've seen the video to which Velocirapture is referring. I think it was a World Cup race or something. Rubbing wheels happens occasionally and most times the trailing rider can recover from it. If you are in a sphinx position, you will not recover from it.

I'd give somebody guff for sprinting from the hoods in a crit, too.
