Chinese carbon tubs

I know this debate has been had many times over in other areas of the forums, but...I am thinking of looking at a set of carbon tub rims for the track to be laced onto existing hubs as without the issue of braking surfaces the risks seem lower.

Am I right? Anyone have any experience with something similar?

Yup. Seen and used several. They can be quite good. Particularly for the price.

Decent, sb hubs, bladed spokes, rim seam channels, offset drilling, and very good prices make them extremely competitive choices IMO.

Are you guys talking dealers like Farsports or HongFu here? Do you know of any who sell just the rims?

I haven't researched any individual sellers yet, but there seems to be plenty on eBay/Amazon/aliexpress.

I would buy the whole wheel, but I inherited some hope hubs with the bike that it'd be a shame not to use...

From my research, I've rad that it's a good thing to stick with the "reputable" chinese vendors like Farsports or HongFu.

Queerpunk: who have you used in the past?

I purchased a set of 60mm tubulars from the eBay seller Carbonspeedcycle, and have been very pleased with my purchase. When I was looking this seller had the highest amount of feedback with a high rating.

I would look for a similar thread in: Road Cycling - Bike Forums

I've seen it discussed there and there are many more people in that part of the website with lots of info to share.

Maybe look/ask in Bicycle Mechanics - Bike Forums as well.

I use and abuse Light Bicycle rims. They make downhill MTB rims that have a great reputation. If their product can stand up to that abuse, I'm happy with their standards

Light bicycle will build track wheels out of any of their road tubular rims and leave out the brake surface if you ask.

Does anyone have any experience with the three spoke and five spoke offerings from the Chinese sellers?

I know a guy with a 5 spoke. Similar design to a FFWD and lighter, but flexy. He's not s heavy guy either!

I've seen a bunch of different designs and some of the 4- and 5-spoke designs seem wack as hell.

but i've seen some that look decent.

but who really knows.
