who here is new to the track this year?

I'm new BACK to the track this year. The last time I rode a track was in 1964 - 41 years ago.

Which velodrome?

The Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario Cananda. It opened in April of this year.

Who/what got you started?

When I heard that this indoor Vel was being built I HAD to get involved. I talked to some guys I hadn't seen or ridden with for 30 years and I was in! I now lead two sessions per week - Beginner/Recreation and Sport Riding.

Your thoughts so far?

Thoughts? This indoor track is incredible. It's one of three indoor velodromes in all of N.America. You guys have the new ADT Vel and we have another up here in Burnaby BC Canada. I can't wait for winter to come so we can ride indoors out of the ice and cold. And no more rollers in the basement either!

This Vel was built by a local company - Apollo Velodrome Systems - who have built tracks all around the world. Albert Coulier the designer and company owner is 87 years young and (of course) rode the first lap of the track.

The track is arguably the world's steepest and shortest at 50 degrees and 138 metres but it's so easy to ride.

Come on up for a ride! Bring your 81" gears (48/16).

I recently met another re-intro to the track (local Chi-towner) and we discussed a trip to the FCV...just gotta balance work and play...or quit work. At this point, it is the path of less resistance.

you know the mike walden velodrome (in rochester) is right along your path from chicago to london - and a good two hours closer. not to knock forest city, of course - it looks like a total blast, and i hope to get there sometime soon. if you're serious about making the trip, though, you ought to check out bloomer park as well. unless the stratford festival is your ultimate goal, that is. ;)
